AYSO is child-first and child focused. We are a soccer organization with happy, healthy kids as our passion.
Every decision, every rule and every program has "what's good for kids" as its basis. Every girl and boy stepping on a soccer field for the first time can have fun. AYSO's child-first approach also makes it one of the finest player development programs. Everybody likes to win, but developing successful players and people is what's fundamental in AYSO.
The American Youth Soccer Organization is a non-profit nation-wide organization founded in Torrance, California in 1964. AYSO is affiliated with the United States Soccer Federation (USSF), the official soccer organization in the USA, and through it with the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) the official world soccer organization. AYSO Region 390, which serves Oak Ridge and the surrounding areas, was chartered in 1985.
AYSO is different from many sports organizations in the USA. We use soccer to help young people develop positive character traits. We strive to instruct children in soccer, without losing sight of the importance of ethics and humor. We focus on the child's needs while playing sports.
As parents and spectators, we can all enjoy the fun and excitement of the game. We urge you to cheer and encourage good play and sportsmanship exhibited by both teams.
AYSO is an all volunteer organization. To make the program a success one volunteer is needed for every two players. We encourage you to get involved with your child's soccer program. Talk to your coach or a board member to find out how you can help. Many jobs require no knowledge of soccer. We need people to do typing, inventory soccer balls, restock first aid kits, paint fields, proof read, schedule games, store nets and flags near a field, etc. During registration, please be sure to fill out the Volunteer Form indicating how you can help the program. Thank you for participating and welcome to the current soccer season.
